About the artistGAYLE BLACKERBY, Fine Artist
Blackerby is a free painter who comfortably jumps from nature to surrealism to improvisational abstraction. Gelling her breadth of creative painting into the Blackerby Style is color. Her brushwork can be controlled in a gridded architectural abstraction or loose and dynamic in her response to the world of plants and flowers. Her vision is always uniquely Blackerby whether naturalistic, impressionistic or surrealistic. What she says about her painting process, says a lot about her artistic exploration, “I have realized the beginning and ending of my work is never important, just the journey in between.” Blackerby has been working in the field of art most of her life. She studied art and received her BA degree in Fine Art and Design at the University of North Alabama. The following year she began working as a layout designer and artist for an national advertising company in Birmingham, Alabama. Six years later she married and began her family, deciding to work from home doing freelance for several major advertising companies in the area. Later she began concentrating on computer layout and design and eventually started her own marketing, advertising & design firm in Raleigh, North Carolina, which was in operation for over 25 years. In 2006 Blackerby resurrected an old canvas and returned once again to her passion of painting. Over time she began creating more artwork and eventually became an artist in residence, gallery manager and teacher at a local art gallery for over 10 years. Currently Blackerby is dividing her time between her family, a local Raleigh nonprofit, painting and creating, and the beach. In the future she plans to work towards more gallery exhibitions and mentoring other students. |
